Hi. I am Saurabh Dass Manandhar. My primary interests are computers, photography and aviation; in reverse order. I started out with computers and with a B.E. degree from Kathmandu University, I am Computer Engineer at Nepal Rastra Bank. My main professional interest lies in Networks and Network Security. Currently I am involved with Network Improvisation project and VSAT Installation project for the bank.
I like reading. When I read, I like to spend days on end without breaks. Of course, the book has to be equally interesting! I mostly read murder mysteries though I like Harry Potter series a lot. If I had to choose an author of choice, it would be J.K. Rowling. I think she is a natural story teller.
Photography is my life blood. I like shooting anything, esp. landscape. Unfortunately, I am not that good with it. The subjects that I think I am good at are flowers and insects – the world of macro photography. I like low depth-of-field pictures, and tend to get lost on composition when I do landscapes. Another area where I am weak is portrait. I am not patient enough to wait for the right moment, and consequently I take a lot of useless picture. To further this problem, if I have to shoot someone on request, I don’t like the way they comment on their picture. It’s never perfect and always has a problem or two. “I am in the shadows”, “I look fat”, “You made me look dark” are some of the most common feedbacks I get. Having said that, I do have a couple of nice and perfect portraits, mostly of people who were not aware that I was shooting them.
I own a Canon EOS 30 SLR with Tamron 28-300mm f/3.6-6.3 lens. It’s not very good, esp. when I have to do a macro, but it sure is good for most of the things. The equipment I miss the most is a Flashgun. May be I will buy a SpeedLite EX 580 soon. The only problem is that it costs a cool thirty thousand.
And when I am not feeling lazy, I like to write. And I am very lazy. You can find my writings at http://saurabhdass.blogspot.com. You will see that I am not very regular. I try to keep it around one a month though.
Hopefully, one day, I will fly an aircraft.
